PIDX International Announces Formation of Standards Adoption Council
Houston, TX—October 6, 2021—PIDX International announced today the formation of the Standards Adoption Council: an initiative to design and develop strong, effective adoption strategies at the time that a standards project is proposed.
“Standards create an open, nonproprietary framework that allows a substantial number of systems and technologies to communicate with each other seamlessly,” said Stephanie Waters, Chevron Data and Insights Portfolio Manager and PIDX President. “Developing a new standard can take a significant amount of time and resources, and a lot of dedication from the people who participate in a project team. The investment that the industry puts into standards development emphasizes the importance of the standards. However, beyond just developing standards, we want to encourage adoption so that they are put into practice and the industry can benefit from them.”
PIDX established its Standards Adoption Council to improve the time to market by developing an adoption strategy at the inception of a project. The objectives of the council include: (1) defining the real-world problem that the standard seeks to solve, (2) setting clear key performance indicators (KPIs) around standard adoption success, and (3) implementing proof of concepts (POCs) with project team participants before the voting and approval processes for standardization.
“The journey from adopting a standard to delivering a business outcome in the real world is often fraught with challenges. We expect the Standards Adoption Council to create a community of industry members that collaborate and help each other in this journey. This is one more initiative by PIDX to add value for its members,” said Amit Sethi, PIDX Board Member and regional Digital Technology leader for Baker Hughes in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and India (MENATI).
“The Standards Adoption Council approach will guarantee new standards get used and deployed efficiently and effectively, which delivers a meaningful return on investment for PIDX members and participants that developed the standard,” said Chris Welsh, CEO of OFS Portal and PIDX Chairman of the Board. “Fine tuning of the standard through early adopters will ensure the standards developed going forward will be fit for purpose, practical and improve digital business processes in our industry.”
The PIDX Standards Adoption Council is actively seeking participation from all interested parties, including, standards organizations, operators, suppliers, network providers, and more. Interested parties can contact info@pidx.org to get involved.
