Payload Joins PIDX International – Driving Modern Standards for Modern Programming Languages
January 20th, 2020
Houston, TX – January 20, 2020 – PIDX International announced today that Payload has joined the organization as a new member. Serving the Energy Industry by offering a web and mobile-based application for logistics and supply chain management, Payload is an active contributor to PIDX’s JSON/REST Pilot project, an effort focused on converting existing PIDX messaging and standards to use a JSON messaging format and REST API structure.
JSON/REST is a standard that is used for mobile and modern application development, and the PIDX community has requested support for it as more business transactions occur on mobile platforms. As a member of PIDX, Payload’s CTO, Chris Lambert, has been elected to lead the JSON/REST PIDX project team.
“Modern software technology stacks are leveraging web API architectures that focus less on rigid definitions and more on rapid, cross-platform and easy to use standards that the majority of software systems have adopted today,” says Chris Lambert, CTO, Payload and Chair of the PIDX JSON/REST Pilot Project Team, “JSON/REST is the de facto web language across the industry. It enables cross-platform integrations at a reduced cost while decreasing time to market. This project is key to supporting all adopters of the PIDX standard.”
The PIDX project aims to convert PIDX Field Ticket messaging to JSON format, and then develop restful APIs to receive the messages, identifying mapping for the operations and corresponding response codes for errors. To date, solutions in this area have involved proprietary platforms and legacy systems, such as fixed width and XML.
The PIDX project team will re-create technology-agnostic, royalty-free XML standards to the JSON/REST language to make the standards lighter, improving the speed of data transfer.
Working with the PIDX community to understand the current PIDX infrastructure maps for both business and technical processes, and capturing lessons learned, is a key objective in creating an industry-wide standard.
“Enabling a new architectural footprint that is compatible with mobile standards and applications is an important component of digital transformation,” says Chris Welsh, COO of PIDX. “We are excited to have Payload as an active contributor in this PIDX project.”
